Get A-Head in Life!

February 1976

Claw The Unconquered #5

There’s an episode of The Simpsons where (and excuse me if I get any details wrong, but it’s been years since I’ve seen this episode) the kids are bored, so Marge goes to the closet and digs out an old gift from Patty & Selma: a Vincent Price egg decorating kit.

Now, I’d always just attributed this to the random bizarreness of The Simpsons… until I saw this!

Apparently Vincent Price-themed food craft kits were actually a thing back in the ’70s! I can’t say for sure if that Simpsons bit was inspired by this, but I think it would be quite a coincidence if that’s not the case.

And on an odd note, look at the date on this – it’s from February! I know that comic publishing dates aren’t always accurate, but they’re usually early, if anything, meaning this was most likely published in December, so this was nowhere near Halloween!

And speaking of Halloween, have a happy one, everybody!

“Throw Me the Idol!”

G.I. Joe # 33

There’s this awesome theater nearby that’s been showing classic movies every Sunday, and for two consecutive Sundays I got to enjoy Indiana Jones on the big screen! So when I ran across this ad, I figured I might as well keep up with the Jones’!

On first glance, I thought this was a video game, but it’s actually a role-playing game.

My favorite part about this ad? The fine print at the bottom that says, “PRODUCTS OF YOUR IMAGINATION are trademarks owned by TSR, Inc.” Damn! That’s pretty severe!

Paying $1 for Pennies!?

September 1963

X-Men #1

Coins! Coins!! COINS!!! This is our second installment from Centre Coin Company – in the 1972 installment, they’re only looking to buy coins, but in this one, the focus is on selling!

However, they do have quite an offer – fill the penny album they send you, and you’ll get $150! Makes me wonder just how rare some of those pennies are and how many kids (if any) actually cashed in on this deal.
