I’d Buy That For 10¢!

1940s

Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes

OK, this is the last of my classic Captain America ads from the exhibit in Seattle last year (and that exhibit is currently in Philadelphia – go check it out if you’re nearby!). Here we’ve got Cap and Bucky promoting the Sentinels of Liberty, Cap’s fan club.

You could get your very own Sentinels of Liberty badge for only 10¢! I just looked it up on eBay, and the only original badge I could find sold for $260 – so I guess these were a pretty great investment!

WAKE UP AMERICANS!

1940s

Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes

Sorry, but it’s been a crazy week, and I haven’t had time to put together a real post. So here’s another PSA from Cap that I saw at the Marvel exhibit at MoPOP in Seattle last year.

Because I’m a nerd for grammar, punctuation, and all that good stuff, I find it kind of funny that there’s no comma in Cap’s statement – whereas “Wake up, Americans!” would be a call for Americans to wake up, “Wake up Americans!” is a call for people to wake up American citizens. Don’t you value a good night’s sleep, Cap?

Recycle Our Way to Victory!

Here’s another bonus post from the MoPOP exhibit. In this one we’ve got Cap and Bucky giving you tips on how to recycle paper for the war effort.

Preserve Liberty for Only 10¢!

1940s

Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes

So, I’m considering this kind of a bonus post, since I didn’t actually get this ad from a physical comic book. I recently went to the Marvel exhibit at MoPOP in Seattle, and they had some pretty great vintage Captain America ads on display, so here’s the first that I’d like to share with you.

Cap1_P

Here you can join the “Sentinels of Liberty” (aka the Captain America fan club) for only 10¢! But not only are you showing your Cap fandom, you’re also helping to “preserve liberty in the U.S.A.”! That seems like quite a bargain!
