CBA IRL – PSA FTW!

Sorry, loyal readers, but I’ve been having some technical problems this week, and am unable to access my cache of ad scans – hopefully it’ll be resolved by next week. However, this gives me a reason to finally post a CBA IRL installment that I’ve been meaning to show you for months now!

Remember that anti-molestation PSA with Spider-Man and the Power Pack that I posted a while back? And how I mused that I’d love to find a copy of the actual comic in a bargain bin someday? WELL GUESS WHAT I FOUND IN THE QUARTER BIN!!!

Yes! I actually found a copy of the comic! And because I’m such a dork, this was actually one of the most exciting comic finds of my life (second only to finding a New Mutants #98 at Goodwill – yes, really!), mostly because I never imagined I would actually find it since it’s so obscure!

The content isn’t really anything too spectacular (as expected), but I’m still pretty excited about my nerdy find!

Konami – For All Your Gaming Needs!

March 1988

Visionaries #3

Sorry the alignment’s not great on this one, but my scanner isn’t big enough to do two pages together, and this was the best I could do. Anyway, here’s Konami – producer of some of the biggest video game hits!

You may be wondering why there’s a Goonies II game when there was never a Goonies I. It turns out that there was… but only in Japan. So when Konami made the sequel to that game, it was still called “Goonies II” in all markets, despite the fact that most people never even knew about its predecessor.

Clark (Kent?) Bars

January 1978

Secret Society of Super-Villains #12

I don’t know about you, but I’m not very familiar with Clark Bars. I might have seen them around when I was really little, but I don’t remember ever eating them, and I certainly haven’t seen any recently.

I’d just assumed that these went out of production years ago, which is why I was so surprised to find out that these are still in production today (and have been in continuous production since 1917)! Maybe it’s a regional thing? Or maybe they’re only available from places that sell specialty/retro candy?

Does anyone out there ever see any of these candy bars at your local grocery or convenience stores? I’m curious to know…

Batman: The Video Game Series

February 1995

X-Force #43

One of the best-known and -loved cartoons of the ’90s has been turned into a video game! Yes, the levels in The Adventures of Batman and Robin are actually based on episodes of Batman: The Animated Series.

I actually had the Game Gear version of this (which I don’t think I ever got very far in), but apparently that’s an entirely different game from the SNES version. From what I’ve read, it sounds like the SNES version is considered the definitive one, so I’d be curious to see it someday. However, the Sega CD version (also very different from either the SNES or Game Gear versions), also has cut scenes that some consider to be a “lost episode” of the series – definitely something I’d like to check out!
